How To Create A Home With Character

One of the biggest misconceptions about creating a home, is that you need to spend a lot of money. In fact, some of the most beautiful homes contain the fewest new and expensive pieces. It’s a good idea to make a choice about roughly how you’d like your home to look. Are you going for modern? Clean lines and white walls? Or something more traditional perhaps? Unique pieces which create a warm, homely feel. If you know what you’re aiming for, it’s easier to create a cohesive look.

We often have an eclectic taste, and items of different styles take our fancy, however, this can lead to a mismatched look, which can seem messy.

Character is subjective, so choose what makes you feel most at home when you walk through the front door. Once you have a style in mind, it’s a good idea to do some research on Pinterest or simply in homeware magazines. Cutting out your favourite styles will help you to identify the colours which best suit your room. Try to identify 3 or 4 main colours for each room- this makes it easier to identify pieces which will best suit your room.

When it comes to choosing pieces, it’s nice to have a mix of new and old, for authenticity. If you can try to choose items for your home which have a tale, it allows your home to tell its own story. Going to charity shops and car boot sales are great places to pick to a few gems. Of course, sometimes you can go and find nothing of quality, but it’s fun nonetheless.

When you choose new pieces, it’s a good idea to look for things with a story. Perhaps they are homemade? Created by someone locally? Or brought back by a dear friend after a trip to a far flung land.

With Peckish Goose, all of our products feature our own real bunny rabbits, for this very reason- we wanted to create something which had personality; something with its own story.

So next time you’re passing a car boot sale or a charity shop, take a little look, you might find something which helps to create a home with character.

Remember, less is more. Fewer pieces which are special are better than lots of generic pieces.
