Telling their story:

The stories behind the Peckish Goose animals

All of the animals on Peckish Goose products are created to look like and have the personalities of real animals.

The main characters who feature on almost all of our designs are our own bunny rabbits, Phoenix and Jemima, however, other animals who we have met along the way also feature. They are friends with Jemima and Phoenix and are just as cute and charming as their bunny friends.

Peckish Goose isn’t your average animal-inspired brand- to truly enjoy your Peckish Goose cushion, tea-towel or apron, you must get to know the characters. Read on about the animals who help make Peckish Goose the brand it is.

Phoenix:

Phoenix is our own little bunny rabbit. He is the sweetest little guy, even if he is a little moody at times! Phoenix is three years old, and his birthday is in November.

He is a typical Scorpio- very sensitive, extremely loving and cuddly and a little bit crabby at times.

His favourite food is bananas, although he can’t have too many of them as they give him a tummy ache. Phoenix is a very sleepy bunny- in fact, when he was a baby rabbit, we thought he was poorly, as he slept so much, we took him to the vet, and they said he was absolutely fine, turns out he is just a sleepy little fellow.

Not only does Phoenix love his sleep, but he also enjoys napping with his mama (me). We cuddle up in bed, with the heated blanket on and have a snooze. Once he has had enough (usually when he needs a wee-wee), he hops off the bed and goes into the living room. Phoenix can sleep through almost anything, thunder, aeroplanes, the hoover. He also seems to use his very big ears as eye-masks to block out the light. It is a hilarious sight.

Phoenix loves trips out to St James’ Park and particularly enjoys the sandpit there. The sandpit is ideal as doggies aren’t allowed in (we love doggies, but not all are bunny-friendly), and he gets to practice his digging. Phoenix used to live, with us, by Sandbanks Beach in Dorset, so he grew up playing on the beach. When we take him out, he gets so excited and is on a high for a few days after. He doesn’t even mind going on the bus and the tube!

Phoenix loves cuddles and comes to us to be cuddled. He also loves his cuddles with his Granny, when she comes up from Dorset to stay.

Many of our designs feature young Phoenix, so have a look and see where you can see him!

Jemima:

Jemima is our lady rabbit, and she came to us when she was ten months old. We had recently lost our beloved lady rabbit Skylar and we were all completely heartbroken. We were in such pain, and yet for Phoenix, he had lost his wife and was grieving. Skylar was his whole world. So, we started looking for another wife for the widow rabbit.

Eventually we found the most beautiful girl, who was being sold due to her breeder wanting to breed with new colours. This alone broke our heart. Jemima (who we often call Jimmy) had already had a litter of eight baby rabbits and was no longer of use for breeding. I read the ad, so sad that she had built up a bond with a family who she was not going to see again, however, I knew that we would love her unconditionally for the rest of her days.

Jemima is slightly more anxious than Phoenix as she had a less secure start in life, but she is so much more confident than she used to be. She is a true lady and has the most dignified little feet. Jemima is very friendly and loves cuddles, however, they tend to be father short lived, as she is a busy woman who doesn’t have time to relax too much (unlike her husbun). Jemima used to be afraid of loud noises from the aeroplanes flying over (we live in London, under the flight path) to the hoover (bunnies require a lot of hoovering up), however, these days Jemima is much calmer and doesn’t even notice the planes or the hoover.

Jemima also loves bananas but can only have them as a special treat because of her tummy. Her favourite human in the world is Joshua, her human brother, however, she will settle for me if he is busy. Jemima doesn’t love outings as much as Phoenix, but she does love being a nosey neighbour. We put the big cushion beside the window so that she is able to watch the people walking by outside. She is an extremely intelligent girl and very inquisitive.

Jemima is a very loved little lady, and we feel so grateful that she joined our family.

Many of our designs feature our gorgeous little Jimmy.

Skylar:

Skylar left crossed the rainbow bridge into heaven in June 2021. We were beyond devastated. Skylar was more like a friend than a rabbit. She helped her human brother, Joshua, through bullying and at times he felt like she was his only friend in the world. Anyone with animals will tell you the comfort they bring you during tough times, without saying a word. We believe they have a sixth sense, making it possible for them to feel how we are feeling. With Skylar, she was so connected to us that she would sit with us for longer and be cuddlier when we were feeling sad or scared. For a long time, we knew in our hearts she had cancer. We took her to multiple vets so many times and we were always told she was okay, but we lived with her as a free-roaming rabbit, and we knew she was different.

Skylar was a very happy rabbit though and truly loved life. She was a big foodie and we had to be very careful with our meals as she would steal anything she could get her paws on.

Her favourite place in the world was Sandbanks Beach, up the road from where we used to live. We would take her there during the summer, as it was dog-free, and she would just run. She loved children with all her rabbit heart and would play with them and their beach toys. They loved her and she loved them. Afterwards, we would pop into Jazz Cafe next door, and she would sit with us while we had a coffee. In the winter it was a bit too cold for the beach so we would take her to the cafe to sit with us beside the roaring fire.

Until the day she passed, she was the most loving, intuitive, beautiful and intelligent rabbit lady. We believe she is still with us, and we know she will greet us in heaven when our time on earth is through.

Skylar features on our Unicorn and Bunny design. The Unicorn represents our late Queen Elizabeth, and the rabbit is our own little queen, Skylar. This design is them in heaven together. God bless you Skylar- we miss you every day.

Snowseph:

Snowseph isn’t yet on any of our designs, however, he soon will be. Snowseph was our beautiful baby rabbit. He passed away at just five months old. He became unwell one day and we tried absolutely everything to save his life, but his illness was incurable. Snow, as we usually referred to him, was an angel in the shape of a rabbit. His eyes were bright and shiny, and he woke up every day, excited about life. He was never grumpy, and even when he was very poorly, he still had a look of complete gratitude to be alive in his eyes. He was the most easy-going animal I have ever known, and we loved him with all of our hearts. We believe that he chose us to be his family, knowing his time on earth would be short, as the way we became his family was so serendipitous. We are not close to being healed from our loss, but we take comfort that he did not know a day without love and one day we will be reunited, but in the meantime, Skylar and he are binkying on the beach in heaven.

Rufus:

Rufus features on our Rufus and Jemima design and is my auntie’s sausage dog. Rufus is a lovely boy who used to live in Hampshire, but recently moved out to Corfu with his human mum and dad, his dog- brother Otto and a cat who they rescued from a dumpster, who is slowly destroying their home with her naughty antics! Rufus is a sensible dog and extremely loving. He is a gentle boy and truly loves people. We are all slightly envious of Rufus as his days are now filled with laying in the sun and playing in the sea, unlike us in London.

Otto:

Otto is the brother of Rufus, and is also a dachshund, living in Corfu! He is absolutely beautiful and is loving his new life in the sun!

Percy

Percy is the little pigeon who features on many of our designs. We met Percy when we were waiting at Parson’s Green tube station. He was a handsome gentleman pigeon and hopped on the tube when we did. He told us in Piggish (pigeon language) that he was off to St James’ Park by train to see his pigeon friends. He said that while he could fly there, he found the tube more convenient. Percy said that he also enjoyed getting to chat to people who were going the same way. On this day, it just so happened that we too were heading to St James’ Park. Phoenix and Percy chatted all the way to our destination and vowed to stay in contact. They both have a lot in common, and as you can see from one of our designs, they both like to wear a top hat in public. Percy also often wears a monocle, to help him see when the next train is arriving.

You’ll find Percy on many of our designs; however, his favourite design is the one of him and Phoenix wearing a top hat each.
